The cow is a symbol of life in many cultures, it gives milk and symbolises the maternal earth . In Egypt it was revered as the sky goddess Hathor, who was the mother and spouse of the sun. In India the cow is seen as a sacred nurturer and related to the holy fire. In Buddhism the cow is a close connection to the step by step process towards inner illumination or enlightenment. In Chinese mythology the cow sitting on bed of gold ingots represents wealth and abundance and symbolises future generations will be prosperous.
