Longevity Lock, Gold on Red Cord
Its origins date back to the Han Dynasty (206BC—220AD) to ward off bad luck during the Dragon Boat Festival. It began as five coloured threads which later developed into the lock.
Today it is often given to new babies around 1—3months old to wear around its neck or pinned to its clothes. Its purpose is to protect and bring happiness, good fortune, longevity and a bright future by locking the child’s qi (the life essence) to its earthly body.
