The Turtle (or Tortoise) is regarded as one of the four spritual animals in China, together with the Phoenix, Dragon and Tiger.
The shell of the Turtle is believed to have the markings of heaven and earth upon it. In Chinese mythology the Turtle was said to have risen from the deep with the markings of the eight trigrams on its back, these are used in the I Ching and the Bagwa.
The Turtle also symbolises prosperity, abundance,strength and endurance.
