Ksitighabha (Dizan) holding pearl and staff, Shiny Gold, H165 x W50 x D55mm

In Buddhism, Ksitigarbha (Ksiddigarbha, Dayuan Dizang Pusa) is one of the four principal Bodhisattva’s of the Mahayana tradition. The other’s being: Samantabhadra, Manjushri and Avalokitsevara.

Widely known throughout Asia, Ksitigarbha, is often seen with a staff (to ward off insects) and rosary, holding in his palm a wish fulfilling jewel to light up the darkness. Also known as the Bodhisattva King Earth – Matrix of the Great Vow or Jizo Bosatsu in Japan, he took the vow to help guide all suffering beings from hell. He promised to withdraw from the path of enlightenment until hell remained empty.
