| Sailing
Ships |
A
sailing ship is said to symbolize prosperity and was initiated in
the old trading days in Asia. The ship was said to represent the arrival
of good fortune as on board there was always gold and money. Most
businesses used this symbol as a logo to bring their trade money luck
and to state that their 'luck had finally arrived'. The sailing ship
embodies wood, water and wind elements which when combined it is said
to be most auspicious as they represent health and prosperity. Place
a model or a picture of a sailing ship in the foyer of the home or
workplace, facing inwardly, with a few small pieces of gold on the
deck to strengthen this great symbol of good fortune. |
| Seasons |
Each
has its corresponding element. Autumn is metal, Winter is water, Spring
is wood and Summer is fire. The fifth element Earth is for the period
between seasons. |
| Sculptures |
According
to some schools of feng shui sculptures made of stone; marble, granite
or ceramics should be placed in the Earth sector of the garden (northeast
and southwest). Sculptures made of metal are best placed in the west
or northwest. Sharp angles and points form poison arrows so be careful
what you choose to bring into your garden. Sculptures in certain shapes
and colours can also benefit you such as placing a:1-Round or ball
shaped, white, gold or silver in the Northwest or West sector(to energize
metal),2-Square or block shaped, brown or yellow in the Southwest
or Northeast (to energize earth), 3-Pyramid or triangular shaped,
red orange, pink or purple in the South,(to energize fire),4-Rod or
beam like shaped, green or brown in the Southeast and East(to energize
wood),5-Wavy shaped, blue or black in the North(and to energize water). |
| Sha |
In feng shui Sha Chi, also spelt Shar Chi is the Killing Breath or
negative energy. This disruptive Chi said by some schools of feng
shui to be caused by sharp angles and hostile structures. You can
learn how to identify it and guard against it. Deflect it with mirrors,
crystals, and by placing large plants or trees in its path to slow
down or absorb the sha chi directed at you and your home or workplace. |
| Shade |
Levels of light should be treated with their correlation to Yin and
Yang energy. A balance is required with both. Too much shade in the
garden will provide excessive Yin energy. As in the home excessive
light can create too much Yang energy. Creating a balanced yin and
yang dynamics will benefit the growth of the occupants, which may
affect in particularly, their health. For example if a bedroom allows
too much natural sun light to enter at the crack of dawn the occupants
may suffer from restless sleep during the vital sleep hours of the
morning which in turn may cause stress, anxiety and lethargy. Not
enough light in the lounge area or a wealth area of the premises may
affect the careers of the occupants as this thrives on movement, light
and yang energy. In turn this may cause money loss or decline in the
business aspect of the occupants. |
| Six Emperor Brass Coin Ruler |
Prosperity and Good Fortune. The 6 Emperor Coin Ruler is used
in Flying Stars Feng Shui as protection and to encourage heaven
luck and prosperity. It represents the Big Metal. For heaven luck
it may be placed in the Northwest of a room. The Ruler may be placed
above the front door, to represent success in one's business or
home.
|
| South |
The home of the Phoenix.
Houses situated with southerly aspects are said to purvey good Feng
Shui. Placing something red in this sector of the home symbolises
attracting excellent Chi to the fame and popularity of the occupants. |
| Southeast |
The wealth sector. Energise this area with plants and water to attract
good fortune and increase income. You may also use a rectangular like
sculpture in green and brown. |
| Southwest |
The romance sector. It is believed that the southwest is the powerful
Yin sector, which benefits the family matriarch. According to some
schools of feng shui try to avoid building a kitchen or a toilet in
this location as it symbolises romance or love aspect of the occupants
will literally be 'flushed down the tube' or 'go up in flames'. In
this sector of the premises use the colour red, along with the colours
pink, purple or orange, anything shaped in a pyramid or triangle as
well as candles and Rose Quartz crystals. |
| Spring |
The
major growth period for the year, therefore symbolic of the Wood
element. In business it becomes the perfect time to start a new
project, launch a new product or restructure. |
| Staircase |
According
to some schools of feng shui, staircases are like bridges between
each level in helping the lower level chi interact with the upper
level chi. However if a staircase faces the front or entrance door
this may be considered less than ideal. Some schools of feng shui
believe that this causes confusion between the chi entering the front
door and the chi from the upper level that is draining out, they believe
that by not being able to keep the vital positive Chi in your home
or workplace can be disastrous and staircases opposite the front door
do not help. However to remedy this problem place a large object such
as a large pot plant in front or to one side of the staircase to make
a filter type remedy for the Chi entering and exiting. You can use
other large objects such as sculptures, tall aquariums, etc. They
consider that by distracting the Chi it will lessen the effect of
this problem and thus create a positive effect. |
| Sun |
Perfect
Yang energy. Windows allowing plenty of natural sunlight into the
home are essential, but it may be necessary to filter that light in
the summer to avoid excessive Yang energy disrupting the balance. |
| Swimming
Pool |
According
to some schools of feng shui, water attracts wealth chi to premises,
and large bodies of water are even more auspicious. Make sure that
the swimming pool water is kept clean from anything that causes the
water to become polluted and foul-smelling. If left to pollute water
is an element that can attract sha chi (negative energy) at an increasing
fast pace, so be alert. Gentle sounds of water can be beneficial to
the family's wealth status, and people or even children swimming in
water can symbolise increasing your luck by bringing a positive affect
to the family's health. |

of the flutes' chi' power. Tassels can also be placed to tie back
curtains such as:Red, orange, pink or purple in the South,Yellow or
brown in the Southwest and Northeast,Green and brown in the Southeast
and East, Blue and black in the North, and white, gold or silver in

| Temple
Lions |
Temple
Lions statues appeared in China with the coming of Buddhism. They symbolise
defence and protection and are often seen guarding entrances and gateways
to buildings. The Lion is the symbol of majestic strength, great courage
and strength of character. When a Temple Lion is seen playing with
a ball it is to signify the moon pearl which symbolises blessings
and protection against evil, and the ball also represents the sun, which
is Yang. The mother Lion plays with a tiny cub, representing maternal
love and protection. |
| Thorns |
Some
schools of feng shui consider plants carrying thorns such as the rose
and cactus should not live indoors due the 'poison arrows' they direct
at you. The cut flower of the rose is desirable if the thorns are
removed. These schools of feng shui also recommend that in the garden,
thorny plants should not be abundant and one is advised to keep them
back from the house and away from entrances. |
| Tiger |
Judgment,
Skill and Protector of Souls. Tigers are solitary creatures, living
alone until it is time to breed. In ancient times the Tiger obtained
the imagery of a supernatural power and also as the mount for Durga,
the “Inaccessible One” who rode the Tiger into battle.
Stone Tigers are often used seen protecting graves and doorways. In
Japan, the Tiger was said to live a thousand years and was adopted
as an emblem of the warrior class. Tigers are often identified with
masterful spirits of Shamanism. Traces of this culture still exist
to this day. |
Tortoise
|
(See
Turtle) |
| Traffic |
Important to consider around the home or business as its movement
is likened to that of a river (See 'rivers' for placement) Traffic
rushing past is like a raging river with producing Sha Chi. Traffic
jams however are like stagnant water also producing Sha chi. A slow
steady flow of traffic is similar to the slow steady stream. Traffic
lights, roundabout's, and road humps act to slow the flow while not
impeding the moving vehicles. Noise pollution caused by a lot of traffic
can also produce bad energy that may affect the occupants sleep or
relaxation time by affecting their health. If the noise is too great
place heavy drapes on the windows or roller shutters outside the windows
to absorb most of this hazardous effect. |
| Triangle |
The shape of the fire element. Some schools of feng shui consider
the points of a triangle to act as poison arrows and care should be
taken to ensure they are not directed at doorways. However a triangle
is also a symbol of protection and can be placed in the south in the
colour red, orange, pink or purple. |
| Trigrams |
The Trigrams were formed by the combination of Yin (a broken line),
and Yang (an unbroken line) to create a type of formula or guide that
determines that type of energies, good or bad, which helps us better
understand them. Click here for a diagram. |
| Turtles |
The turtle is considered most auspicious and the purveyors of
good fortune and wealth. Good wherever you want to create prosperity.

| Vase |
Some
schools of feng shui consider vases, urns and other pottery/clay pots
to be fantastic earth cures that symbolise enhancing your romance
in the Southwest and your knowledge or study luck in the Northeast.
They are great for enclosing and defusing bad or stagnant energy as
the chi enters it get is immediately trapped at the bottom of the
pot making the chi less harmful. If you want to place some flowers
in a clear glass vase as an earth cure, remember they are lesser earth
than solid ones so they cancel themselves out as an earth cure.
|
| W |
| Water
|
Obviously
associated with the water element and symbolic of wealth and prosperity.
Water features placed in the north of your home and garden are the
most auspicious, with the southeast and southwest being secondary
locations. Water should be treated with respect, as excessive or
poorly placed water can prove harmful. Stagnant or polluted water
should also be avoided as it will, obviously, produce stagnant and
polluted chi. Some schools of feng shui consider a water fountain
is an excellent wealth cure.
The circulating movement of the water keeps it from getting dirty
too quickly and the sounds of moving water symbolises attracting
prosperity luck into the building and keeping it there. |

aspect of the Feng Shui Compass School formula dealing with the
correct flow and direction of water, finding the appropriate cures

in the North sector of the home or workplace. These can be applied
to sculptures or paintings. |

good fortune to your children. Placing bells, metal ornaments or
white objects (Consider painting these walls white) are effective
ways of achieving this goal. |
| Western

Sunlight
from the west has intense Yang energy and should be softened or
broken up with the use of crystals. This will create rainbows of
light and reestablish the balance. |
|
White |
A shade that is easy to remember as it's symbol transcends many
cultures and religions. It is the symbol for Purity. As white being
the colour of metal, use it in the West, to enhance your children's
luck, and in the Northwest , to enhance good influences from mentors.
|

to some schools of feng shui the soft tinkling sound of windchimes
is said to attract Sheng Chi (positive energy) and dispel Sha Chi
(negative energy). Depending on the material of what the chime is
made out of, will determine where the windchime may be positioned.
Metal chimes can be placed in the west and southwest (Metal element).
Bamboo or other wooden chimes can be placed in the east or southeast.
Ceramic chimes can be hung in the southwest or northeast. Glass chimes
can be placed at the front entrance and center of the home, and near
windows. Chimes that are used to enhance a certain area should use
the following number of rods:2 in the Southwest, 3 in the East, 4
in the Southeast, 6 in the Northwest, 7 in the West, 8 in the Northeast
and 9 in the South. For use outside of feng shui, use windchimes as
a thing of visual and audio beauty.

| Wind |
A
strong element said to have helped carve the landscape. Protect your
home against excessive wind or killing breath. Planting large trees
to block excessive wind will help to calm the Sha Chi. Beach front
and hilltop properties are at the mercy of the element, so take great
care in designing or positioning your home in these areašs. |
| Windows |
According
to some schools of feng shui, the number of windows in the home should
be proportional to the number of doors by a factor of 3:1. A window
directly opposite an entrance door is said to represent Chi flying
out of the house again without reaping its benefits. This is said
to make it difficult to save money also. |
| Wood

colours of the Earth element, place yellow in the following sectors
of the home or workplace. Southwest, to symbolise healthy romance
and relationships, and Northeast, for knowledge and study. Yellow
is said to stimulate intellect so you may wear yellow on situations
where great knowledge may be required of you, such as when studying
for exams, business meetings, etc. |
|
Yin |
Yin energy is the passive-half of the Yin-Yang concept. Symbolized
by darkness, is flexible, weak and stationery energy, is silent and
is of Female qualities. And it is a vital ingredient in producing
good Feng Shui. Similar levels of Yang energy should be oppositely

for a complete harmonious cycle in our premises or in our lives. |

| Zen
Garden |
Zen
monasteries in Japan have beautiful gardens which were initially created
for contemplation and inspiration that assisted the monk's path to
spiritual insight. It was not used for meditation though as the garden
was too bright and distracting. Meditation was done indoors in a semi-dark
meditation hall, or Zendo, preferably sitting on the floor and facing
a wall away from any sensory interruptions. The monks did not keep
the gardens just for the 'art of gardening' but to keep in close contact
with the earth by turning the soil to cleanse it and nourish it by
watering it daily. A Zen garden includes white raked sand areas, large
islands of upright stones, plants and shrubs. Keeping a Zen garden
requires a lot of dedication in maintaining it and by doing so this
type of garden will benefit you both physically and spiritually. |
